There comes a time when we have to put short-term thinking aside
and look at the long picture. So many mistakes in our country are
based upon no panning for the distant future so that we can solve
problems in the immediate present. This economic downturn is no
reason to spur growth and development that does not serve us into
the future. The concept of Smart Growth is all about development,
but on a scale and design that creates communities that are
sustainable - not just in terms of how people live within them -
but also how they are supported economically into the future. The
side benefit is that they tend to be healthy for the individuals
living there as well.

Please look at SB 375 as something we can achieve - not some
unrealistic dream. We can't harm our future to help our present.
The future becomes the present soon enough, and we need to look
back and see that we took care of what was ahead while we had the
chance.
