| Comment | Please watch Annie Leonard's "The Story of Cap and Trade" to learn how irrational and irresponsible it is to regulate sustainability using credit offsets. This action would let the biggest greenhouse gas polluters (oil refineries, power plants and cement plants) buy offsets in forests throughout the Sierra Nevada and elsewhere, from timber operators that clearcut California's forests. None of the international climate programs include clear cuts, so don't let the timber harvesters set this awful precedent in California's new law. We cannot clearcut our way out of climate change. Please take out provisions that would include clear cuts in the kind of forest projects that are eligible as offsets. Thank you. |
