Subject | Flying insects and "other flying arthropods" |
Comment | ARB should remove the term "or other flying arthropods" from the consumer products regulation for the definition of "flying bug insecticide. Insects are the only known flying arthropods; there are no flying arthropods that are NOT insects. The definition already includes the term "flying insects" and this, therefore, includes ALL flying arthropods. Including the term "or other flying arthropods" implies that there are flying arthropods that are not insects (e.g., crabs, spiders, or centipedes with wings?). Hoewever, this is simply not the case, as can be confirmed through consultation with any college level textbook on animal form and function or animal taxonomy. Continuing to include the phrase "or other flying arthropods" is simply incorrect and only leads to confusion over the applicability of this category of products to other arthropods that are not insects and do not fly. |
