I am writing in support of the Speed Reduction Initiative for the
Santa Barbara Channel. The air quality along the central coast is
highly affected by ships traveling through the channel. Requiring
those ships to slow down would not only reduce air pollution, but
would also reduce the greenhouse gas emissions caused by shipping
in the area. I believe that both these outcomes -- reduced air
pollution and reduced greenhouse gas emissions -- are goals of the
AB32 program, making the speed reduction initiative an ideal
candidate for receipt of AB32 auction funds. Therefore, I encourage
you to direct funds towards this initiative.
