Comment | An equation from elementary physics shows that this is a real tail-chaser of a law. The pressure of a given volume of gas varies directly with temperature. Simply, when the temperature goes up, pressure goes up; when the temperature goes down, pressure goes down. Since ambient temperature can vary by more than 20 degrees on a given day and the tire temperature can vary significantly more due to friction, road temperature, and load, pressure will vary significantly throughout the day. This variance can be 15% or more in a given day. That means a 35 lb psi tire can go as high as 40.4 lbs or as low as 29.6 lbs without adjusting the fill of air. Your operating ranges are too narrow and your penalties are too high. This is not an area that should be subject to regulation. |
