Comment | I feel this proposed regulation is unfair to the automotive repair professional. The process for inspecting tires should not be regulated, all good shops do this without regulation. A penalty for not inspecting a customers tires is just wrong. Who decided to make auto repair professionals responsible for acts of God, or worse, acts of consumers? Make it right; establish a web site (could be at DMV or DCA) where a VIN can be pasted, a short information page to insert before and after tire pressures and condition, any other information required and date stamped. The entity chosen for this monitoring can issue a warning when a VIN is not entered within a set number of days, then a fine when another time frame is met. Pay the service providers for their time (we can discuss this later) using the money collected from consumers who choose not to maintain their vehicles. We, the auto professionals of the world, have worked hard to keep our customers safe from tire failure due to negligence. We have worked equally hard to save our customers from spending needless money for tires that have failed prematurely. We have worked hard to prevent accidents related to tire failure. Most importantly, a properly maintained tire will in fact save fuel and keep our air cleaner. Regardless of weather or not a regulation is made for tire pressure, we, the auto repair professionals, will keep checking tires, it is what we do. |
