Subject | Zero Emissions Vehicles |
Comment | I wish to urge you to do everything possible to make zero emissions vehicles available to the public. In particular, pure (not hybrid) plug-in electric cars are extremely efficient and produce no emissions. It is regrettable that CARB's reversal of its Zero Emissions Mandate in the past resulted in the major car companies canceling their EV programs and even taking back leased EVs from people who wanted to buy them--and tragically crushing perfectly good cars. It is incomprehensible that cars that were created to solve environmental issues were wastefully destroyed before their life cycle came to an end. I know from first-hand experience that people want EVs. I made the commitment--I own and drive an electric car. I was one of the lucky few who was able to get one. It wasn't easy to get one, but I want to do my part to make our air cleaner and reduce our reliance on foreign oil. I am constantly asked by strangers who see my car where they can get one. I want there to be options for these people. Why shouldn't there be options? Why shouldn't people who want zero emissions vehicles be able to buy them? And buy them today--not ten years from now. We cannot buy promises, which is all we seem to get from the car companies. The public is ready for green choices. The major car companies have demonstrated that they can produce quality EVs. We need legislation so that the car companies will provide options other than large SUVs that they created demand for. If they want to sell cars larger than the public needs, they should at least give us "green" options as well so the public can decide. California's environment is in your hands. Please use your votes responsibly and for the good of all Californians. Thank you. Sincerely, Linda Hopkins |
