Subject | Please maintain strict ZEV requirements |
Comment | Dear CARB, Please do not change ZEV mandate and let the major automakers off the hook AGAIN! CARB reputation is already eroding since 2003 for allowing the industry to strong arm California and its citizens. We need the auto industry to put the cleanest autos on the streets with EXISTING technology, and not allow them to once again undermine the real reason for having ZEV regulation - ZERO-Emission Vehicles, and clean air. It is not enough to put "sort-of" clean vehicles on the street when they can put Zero-Emission vehicles in the forms of Battery Electric, or Plug-in Hybrid, BOTH of which, the technology exists TODAY. Many auto companies already have BEV and PHEV under real world tests. There is no reason left to wait. The staff's recommendation is already six months OUTDATED in terms of battery technologies--they are MORE than ready. If the current automobiles companies keep saying they cannot, then allow and encourage innovative companies like Tesla Motors, and Phoenix Motorcars (both based in California), who have ALREADY proven that it IS POSSIBLE with production or pre-production ZEV vehicles on the steets, the chance to succeed. Allow Californians to have a choice. I am a Californian, who just installed Solar Panels at my house in hope to help further the cause of cleaner air. I'm doing my part, but I need affordable BEV or PHEV to continue to do what I can for cleaner air. As a Californian, I'm doing my part. As an organization for the benefits of Californians, CARB must do its part on our behalf. Don't let the auto industry de-rail ZEV requirements again. The mandate must push for the adoption of ZEVs, especially with technonogies that is READY, and EXISTING. ZEV is more than clean air. ZEV is a change in policy that can significantly improve energy efficiency and independence, reduce pollution and begin to move us from the impending complex issues of oil, and global warming all at once! Sincerely, Quyen Ton Tustin, CA |
