Subject | Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) regulations CARB |
Comment | To the California Air Resources Board: I formally request the California Air Resources Board not to weaken the current Zero Emission Vehicle regulations. Zero emission vehicles not only reduce air pollution, but aid in the fight against global warming. Now is the time to strengthen, not weaken, these requirements. As a potential car purchaser, I am concerned about pollution as well as the high price of gasoline. The option of purchasing a zero emission vehicle and reducing my own impact is important as I reside in Riverside County, the surrounding area has long standing history of poor air quality. This County's Air Quality or lack there of is well known throughout California. The purchase of ZEV will be zero if automakers are only required to make 150 of these vehicles per year. Zero Emission Vehicles would be prohibitively expensive when produced in such low numbers. Also the scarcity would drive up the price above MSRP. Hybrid Cars offered by Toyota, Honda, Lexus, and Ford have frequently sold at more than suggested retail as the demand has out stripped the supply. The resale value of these cars have remained high, at one point used hybrid models selling at near MSRP. Finally, I fully support the staff's proposal to significantly increase the number of plug-in hybrids that must be produced and appreciate staff's vision in including these cars in the ZEV requirements. A plug-in hybrid that has an all-electric range, but that also runs on gasoline when the battery is empty, is a great option for consumers like me. Thank you for your time and consideration Respectfully yours, George Steven Foss |
