Subject: Annual Summary of In-Use Compliance Testing and Recall Activity
To provide timely information on the Air Resources Board's (ARB) in-use compliance testing and recall program,
the staff publishes a summary of this activity on an annual basis. Attached is a summary of the in-use compliance
testing for calendar-year 1999. Also attached is a summary that includes all in-use compliance testing since the
program's implementation in 1983.
Additionally, the staff compiled data regarding all recalls affecting California-certified vehicles that were implemented
during 1999. Voluntary recalls and service campaigns from the applicable manufacturer, as well as recalls from
the ARB's in-use compliance testing program are listed. Also included are the recalls that resulted from the ARB's
emissions warranty information reporting (EWIR) program and a summary of all recalls resulting from the EWIR regulations
from the program's implementation in 1990 through December 31, 1999.
Beginning with the 2000 calendar year, this summary will only be accessible through the ARB Website at http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/mailouts/mouts_00.htm.
