ARB strike force to check large trucks for compliance with state air pollution laws


SACRAMENTO - The Air Resources Board will be working alongside the California Highway Patrol to conduct inspections on heavy-duty trucks traveling in the Sacramento area. The effort is part of ARB’s stepped-up enforcement campaign to ensure that clean air requirements are understood and that big rig drivers are in compliance with the laws designed to improve air quality throughout California.

WHAT: Truck inspections to check for compliance with state air pollution laws

WHO:  California Air Resources Board, California Highway Patrol

WHEN: Tuesday, Sept. 17, 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. (ongoing inspections)

WHERE: In Sacramento just past the Highway 99-Interstate 5 split, north of the city on southbound 99, north of W. Riego Road and south of Sankey Road. Southbound side only. From downtown Sacramento, head north on 99. After the split, go past W. Riego and make a U-turn at Sankey. Get off at the turnout before W. Riego. (Look for CHP and Truck Inspections signage).

Note: English and Spanish-speaking ARB representatives will be available for interviews.

State measures aimed at cleaning up diesel vehicles include requirements to report fleet information to ARB, employ fuel-saving technology, install diesel soot filters and replace or upgrade aging engines and transport refrigeration units.

The ARB oversees all air pollution control efforts in California to attain and maintain health based air quality standards.
