Report to the Board on a Health Update - Effects on Air Pollution on Lung Development from Age 10 to 18
This latest result from the Children's Health Study presents findings on air pollution's effect on children's health and lung development over the period of rapid lung development that occurs during ages 10 to 18. The results are similar to previous findings that lung function growth was reduced for those exposed to higher levels of the pollutants NO2, acid vapor, PM2.5, and elemental carbon. However, the impacts may be far greater since by age 18 many adolescents are reaching the end of their lung development and a reversal in growth becomes unlikely. In addition, deficits in lung function in young adulthood may have strong medical implications later in life, with implications for respiratory complications and death during adulthood.

Report to the Board on the Lake Tahoe Atmospheric Deposition Study
This informational item will update the Board on the status of the Lake Tahoe Atmospheric Deposition Study, a 3-year multi-divisional research effort. The primary objective of the study is to support the Lahontan Regional Water Quality Control Board (Lahontan) in its development of the Lake Tahoe Nutrient and Sediment Total Maximum Daily Loading (TMDL) plan being developed to restore Lake Tahoe's mid-lake water clarity to 30 meters. The ARB effort will provide updated estimates of atmospheric deposition of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and particulate matter (PM) directly to Lake Tahoe. These results will be input, along with estimates of other sources of N, P, and PM to Lake Tahoe (e.g., streams, shore erosion, surface runoff, groundwater), into a water clarity model for Lake Tahoe. Based on the modeling results and sensitivity analyses, Lahontan will develop a regulatory plan to restore Lake Tahoe's famed water clarity.

Report to the Board on the Annual Research Plan - Planned Air Pollution Research for FY 2004-05
This report presents the Air Resources Board's planned air pollution research for the fiscal year 2004-05. The Board's research projects provide the timely scientific and technical information that will allow the Board and local districts to make the public policy decisions necessary to implement an effective air pollution control program in -2005. Twenty-two projects are proposed for funding.
