Enforcement is active. Stay Compliant. 

California's Clean Truck Check law is in effect. Avoid a California DMV registration hold and other enforcement actions.  

The law applies to vehicles that:

  1. Weigh more than 14,000 pounds.
  2. Drive on California roads.
  3. Use diesel, alternative fuels, or hybrid engines.


Vehicle owners need to take 3 steps to comply:

  1. Report vehicle information in Clean Truck Check-Vehicle Inspection System (CTC-VIS).
  2. Pay an annual fee.
  3. Test vehicles.

Reporting Database

Report affected vehicle(s)* in the Clean Truck Check (CTC-VIS) database.

*Including government vehicles and buses.

Credentialed Testers Requirements

Only credentialed testers can complete and submit results.  Anyone can become a Credentialed Tester. Credentials expire every two years.

  1. Complete the free training course.
  2. Pass the exam.
  3. Create a tester account in CTC-VIS.
