Comment | A important opportunity has presented itself. Golden State Natural Resources is apparently stepping away from production of wood pellets, transporting them to port cities, and shipping them over seas to be burned. This company wrongly asserts 0n its webpage that "...our forest have become a danger to the environment." Given your broader understanding of climate change, emissions, and sequestration, I do not believe you agree with this perspective. As you know, based on research by the Center for Biological Diversity and others, the production and collection of trees and other material results in large emissions and pellet production results in more emissions through transportation over long distances and for burning. I wish California had acted on this important information, but luckily the public did and now pellet production by GSNR is not a threat at the moment. This is good for the earth and the forests by which pellet production placed even more pressure on them due to what some dreamed was a profitable way to use our forests. This development by GSNR buys us a little time to perhaps recalculate our models to include the "over all" emissions associated with so called forest biomass. Thank you all for your incredibly important work. Kimberly Burr, Esq. |
