Comment | After reading the Draft Report on Planned Air Pollution Research, I would like to emphasize two points related to the high ozone levels in our county. Western Nevada County consistently ranks in the top 10-15 counties with the worst ozone pollution in the nation. And, according to transports studies conducted by CARB, we are "overwhelmingly" impacted by the Broader Sacramento Area and "significantly" impacted by the Bay Area. As a result, I request two considerations: 1. Validation of ARB’s Statewide Biogenic Emissions Inventory (p. 41). Nevada County should be included in this validation study, considering that biogenic emissions may play a significant role in contributing to our high ozone levels. 2. AMAX-DOAS Column Observations from Research Aircraft Over California (p.43). As an ozone hotspot, Western Nevada Country should be included in the region covered by these observations. Western Nevada County deserves to be considered in this research since we are so adversely impacted by our upwind neighbors. Thanks, Ed Welch Save the Air in Nevada County |
