I am writing to urge you to reduce or eliminate
California’s consumption of crude oil from the Amazon.  I was appalled to learn
that California consumes nearly 50% of all oil extracted from the
Amazon globally.  I am
calling upon you to regulate refineries’ crude sources and
volumes and to ensure that they are not opening up new drilling in
the Amazon. 
California needs to commit to new fuel efficiency standards
and expanded electrification of vehicles.  I am also asking you commit California to
ensuring that refineries are not sourcing crude oil from regions
where there are indigenous rights violations.
