| Comment | As a Planning Commissioner, I know all too well how entrenched
traditional land use patterns are in our communities. Changing
that will be difficult, but change it we must. Now is our
opportunity to aim large, while the economy is keeping development
in abeyance. Local governments need very strong leadership, and
assistance, from CARB to help us steer in a more sustainable
direction. As one example, the goal of 5 MMT is too low for a land
use target. We simply cannot keep doing business as usual anymore,
and that means pushing all of us outside our comfort zones. The
development interests have to adapt to the reality of climate
change, and local governments need help bringing about that change.
