Subject | Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction - Need for agressive action |
Comment | I urge the Air Resources Board to approve a strong and forward-looking land use policy that effectively addresses greenhouse gas emissions reduction in order to protect our environment, but to do so with the understanding that the degradation of our environment will ultimately, and in the not too distant future, be extremely detrimental to our overall economy, business capabilities, health and numerous valuable resources. Land use policy is inextricably tied to greenhouse emissions and smart land use policies will have a significant impact in reducing greenhouse gases and contribute greatly to the environmental impact of greenhouse gas emissions. It will be important to increase the land use target from 5 million metric tons (MMT) of CO2 equivalent to 11-14 MMT. Smart planning and leadership is required at this time. Shortsighted planning with limited vision will be bad for the environment, the future of our population, and will quickly be shown to be bad for the economy and business. We need aggressive and significant land use policies to demonstrate that we will reduce emissions, impact the action and thinking in this area, and lead the way nationally. Sincerely, Marshall Dinowitz |
