| Comment | Dear Ms. Nichols and California Air Pollution Control District
Board Members:
Please include the Vessel Speed Reduction Initiative in the Draft
Cap-And-Trade Investment Plan.
In a community blessed by our incredible proximity to the ocean and
all it has to offer, we must protect our ocean resources including
the magnificent whales that travel our channel and are at risk to
ship strike. But further, the emissions produced by cargo ships
just offshore not only affect our local community but have a much
broader reach, adding to the global problem of GHG emissions. You
have an opportunity to achieve multiple benefits that will not only
have a positive impact on our regional community but will extend
much further by reducing GHG emissions and other air pollutants,
improving public health, and better protecting whales.
I support including vessel speed reduction in your Final Plan as a
priority for funding and request Cap-and-Trade money be directed to
the Vessel Speed Reduction Initiative.
Sincerely,
Courtney Dietz
