| Comment | Dear California Air Resources Board,
I am writing to you to voice my concern that proposed amendments to
California's Low Carbon Fuel Standard are moving us in the wrong
direction. We need to stop relying on combustion fuels and move
rapidly to less damaging energy sources. Giving billions of dollars
in State subsidies to companies that produce high carbon fuels is
absolutely the wrong direction.
Governor Newsom's proposed budget de-prioritizes transportation
programs that could move more people out of single-occupant
vehicles by delaying and cutting funding to zero-emission
transportation programs. Again: this is the wrong direction. The
multiple billions of dollars directed by the Low Carbon Fuel
Standard should be put to use in de-emphasizing combustion fuels
and emphasizing zero carbon alternatives. The current proposed
amendments do little more than continue supporting combustion fuels
while enriching corporations that care little for our health and
welfare when it conflicts with their prosperity (which is nearly
always).
California has a reputation as a climate leader. I urge you to
reinforce California's reputation with true reforms to the Low
Carbon Fuel Standard that will allow us to bequeath a better world
to our children. The Low Carbon Fuel Standard should strive to
eliminate combustion fuels completely, not support them with State
money.
Sincerely,
Geoffrey Mack
