| Comment | Dear California Air Resources Board,
Please set the Tier 1 cap for small Plug-in Hybrid companies to
100 cars. We understand the importance of insuring that the
conversions do not negatively impact air quality. It is also
important that early adopters have a reasonably priced path to
conversion. A cap of 100 conversions for Tier 1 installers, I feel
provides a very small company with the ability build a small
customer base and at the same time plan and prepare for expensive
second level of testing required for Tier 2 companies.
We converted our 2007 Prius in Dec 2008. It is part of our plan to
put in solar PV on our house and make other improvements in our
lifestyle which will help reduce our carbon footprint. Driving with
a plug-in has not made it possible for us to drive without gasoline
on a daily basis (we drive about 15,000 miles annually). By driving
a plug-in hybrid, I have learned or been reminded about things I
can do to improve my milage when powered by the gasoline engine as
well as re-thinking how often I actually need to use an automobile
at all. We have sold our second car and I now commute completely
using public transit (ACTransit and BART).
Please help this new industry to survive these early years.
Regards,
Alex Benedict
