Please rethink the new proposals for sportfishing boats. Although I
do believe we need to actively strive to improve our air quality, I
believe these new proposals are really not reasonable and won't be
possible for the majority of boats. I don't believe the technology
is there yet to accomplish our goals. The alternatives for these
boats include expensive new engines that require fluids in an
amount making them impossible to carry on these boats and then run
at extremely high temperatures that would be unsafe for passengers,
or removing these boats from service altogether. Building a new
fleet would be cost prohibitive. The sportfishing fleet is a
relatively small part of our state and removing them entirely
likely would have a negligible effect on our air quality.

The sportfishing fleet on our coast provides a service that is
enjoyed by millions of Californians and Americans. This is an
industry that brings in billions of dollars to the state. Please do
not cause it to be lost.
