Comment | In 1975, I moved to San Diego having graduated from college in an adjoining state. Shortly thereafter, I began an active sport fishing life first experiencing half-day trips and working up through full day and later a 10-day trip all originating out of San Diego. It is remarkable that so many of the boats that brought me countless hours of enjoyment still serve the fishing public. I appreciate and understand environmental concerns. My understanding is that modification of the existing fishing boats is difficult, if not impossible, to achieve. With it goes the livelihood of the captain, crew, dock workers, potential reductions in salt water gear sales to name a few. I do not pretend nor have the knowledge to recommend modifications in the proposal to put the fleet in "compliance." I ask that the fishing community be heard and together with engineering scientists and environmental watch groups be heard and come together to find reasonable approaches to continue this great sport. Children and Wounded Warriors to name a few, deserve the opportunity to enjoy the splendors of ocean fishing. The success of events like "Day At the Docks" demonstrates the huge interest in the sport. My days enjoying it have ended as I now live out my final days ng in Montana, I still wanted to voice my support to the vast network of people who gave me the opportunity to explore American and Mexican waters from a fishing perspective. Sincerely, John Hancock Missoula, Montana |
