Comment | I have lived in the Santa Clara Valley since 1972. I have seen dramatic improvements in air quality and quality of life during that time. Much of that appears to be directly attributable to improvements in automobiles and trucks, gas mileage improvements, and the special fuel formulations used in California. In 1972, it was impossible to see downtown San Jose from South San Jose hills. Palo Alto? You must be kidding! Now, most days of the year, downtown San Jose is readily visible, often against a very clear, blue sky. Cities up the peninsula are also visible, and sometimes, so is the San Francisco skyline (not even dreamt of in the 1970s). Electrification will provide even greater improvements. Electrification is clearly doable. I remember 20 or more years ago when there was an initiative that mandated that 2% of all cars sold in California be electric by several years in the future. There was a great hew and cry about how such a thing was impossible, prices would skyrocket, many businesses that supported internal combustion cars would go bankrupt, etc. Now I see that electric vehicles are extremely popular, and often much bigger sellers than internal combustion engine vehicles. The market has spoken and continues to speak. More Advanced Clean Trucks make perfect sense. Start yesterday. |
