| Comment | To the Air Resources Board,
I'm writing to ask that you help save California sportfishing by
exempting fishing and whale-watching boats (they're the same boats,
from what I've seen) from the new CARB emissions requirements.
Fishing as an outdoor activity is important to my son (11 yo) and
I, and I've also taken our Cub Scout pack on fishing trips on local
boats. (I'm near San Francisco - my local harbor is Half Moon
Bay.) This wouldn't be economically possible without our local
fleet of day-oriented boats.
I'm also a supporter of the multi-day, long range fleet out of San
Diego. The San Diego fleet provides a unique experience anywhere
in the US as 4-star floating hotel, restaurant, and fishing
platforms. I've met many interesting people, spent a lot of money
(on gear, ticket fees, and tips!), and developed a better
understanding of the pelagic ecosystem. (Fisher-folks have to know
quite a bit about their target fish - many of us are also engaged
with different conservation efforts. I contribute to the Golden
State Salmon Assoc. and the Monterey Trout and Salmon Project.)
Anyway, please don't let CA sportfishing be an unintended casualty
of the new emissions requirements.
