| Comment | I am writing to urge the California Air Resources Board members to
support staff’s recommendation of statewide greenhouse gas
emission reduction targets of 5% for 2020 and 10% for 2035.
The staff recommendation includes reasonable, realistic targets
that will be eminently achievable. Those figures represent a
reasonable compromise, considering that research shows that even
higher targets could be possible (the Blueprint’s popular
Valleywide Hybrid scenario could achieve 12% reductions; Vision
California’s scenario could achieve 23%).
Targets like those will have many, many benefits, including:
· Eliminate almost 14,000 tons of air pollution
· Save 600 million gallons of fuel per year
· Save the average household $3,600 per year in fuel and
energy costs
· Protect 375 square miles of farmland from development
· Saves 18,000 gallons of water per year for each new home
built
