Aircraft Emissions arising from operations at Montgomery-Gibbs
Executive Airport in San Diego (Zip 92123) are responsible for 1.4
metric tons of lead particle pollution released into the air each
year according to the airport Master Plan.

We realize that AB 617 prioritizes disadvantaged communities.
However, according to the World Health Organization there is no
safe level of lead and children are the most at risk since lead
exposure can cause serious damage to their developing brains,
resulting in reduced intelligence quotient (IQ), reduced attention
span, and increased antisocial behavior.

There are at least 6 schools within a mile radius from the airport.
Therefore children attending those schools are exposed to lead
pollution arising from airport operations the entire time they are
in school. This is unconscionable, especially since the airport
only sells leaded general aviation fuel when an unleaded fuel,
approved by the FAA, that 80% of general aviation planes can use is
available from Swift Fuels.

Because of these extenuating circumstances, members of the
Montgomery-Gibbs Environmental Coalition respectfully request that
the area around the airport be selected for the community emissions
reduction programs as specified by the CARB Governing Board.
