Subject | March 27 EV Proposal |
Comment | To whom may be concerned: This letter regards the upcoming proposal to substantially reduce production requirements of EVs on auto manufacturers. It is quite possible that I have not taken the time to adequately understand the challenges associated with this decision, and I would be happy to gain more insight into the complexities of this situation. From the inside outsider's standpoint, so qualified because I am a professional in the light EV world, I cannot understand why California, which has led the way in so many progressive environmental initiatives, would continue to reduce production requirements when the EV technology has already been proven and for which there is high demand. Is it because the State needs to make concessions in order to gain more leverage for CAFE standards? Is it because the State is worried about the load demand on its strained existing electrical infrastructure? If so, would such a smaller number increase the demand and adoption rates to the point where the utilities could not respond in time. Perhaps these are not at all concerns or are only peripheral. In any case, I know that I am not alone in failing to understand why it makes sense to so drastically reduce (rather than increase) these requirements that have been placed on auto manufacturers (and largely removed). As part of a public institution, I imagine that you all would like to have public support. If I am incorrect in this assumption and the Board would prefer to stay above the plebeian concerns, so be it. Otherwise, some better information to support what is being circulated as the Board's current direction would be much appreciated by a large number of Californians. Thank you for your time in consideration (and perhaps response). Sincerely, Mitchell |
