Comment | Dear Members of the Board: As an environmentally conscious California resident and consumer, I have been hoping for a long time that my next vehicle will be a zero emissions, completely electric car. Unfortunately, because the vast majority of these cars are manufactured to attain low to moderate speeds, it is unlikely that I will be able to use them. Most of the main arterial streets in my neighborhood (and many others) have a posted speed limit of 35 to 40 mph - far above the current manufacturing specs of the most readily available neighborhood-style electric vehicles. Electric vehicles do a great service to the communities they appear in - creating less pollution, while simultaneously reducing our dependence on foreign sources of oil. As gas prices continue to rise, the people of California are looking to you to help put in motion the circumstances that will allow us to move forward into a new, greener economy. Amending the definition of a Medium Speed Vehicle (MSV) to allow pure electric vehicles to attain a maximum speed of 35 mph (or higher) will open up the electric vehicle market to a broader range of consumers - and that, in my opinion, can only bring good things to California. Thank you very much for your time and hard work, Sincerely, Mandalyn K. McClelland Statewide Real Estate Services (yes, I drive a lot) Granada Hills, CA |
