Subject | Please don't amend 2008 ZEV regulations |
Comment | Sirs, I was just informed that the California Air Resources Board is considering weakening the ZEV regulations that most Californians hailed as a great step forward when first proposed. California has always shown innovative and creative leadership in attacking large-scale environmental problems, and reducing the effectiveness of the 2008 CA ZEV regulations would be a step backwards. I am writing to ask that you not weaken the current Zero Emission Vehicle regulations. ZEVs not only reduce air pollution, but help in the fight against global warming. In fact, now is the time to strengthen, not weaken, these requirements. As a potential car purchaser, I am concerned about pollution as well as the high price of gasoline. I would very much like to have the option of purchasing a zero emission vehicle and reducing my own impact in these areas. This is unlikely to come to pass, though, if automakers are only required to make 150 ZEV vehicles per year. Finally, I fully support the staff's proposal to significantly increase the number of plug-in hybrids that must be produced and appreciate staff's vision in including these cars in the ZEV requirements. A plug-in hybrid that has an all-electric range, but that also runs on gasoline when the battery is empty, is a great option for consumers like me. Thank you for considering my views, Gabriel Ross, Nevada City, CA |
