Dear CARB,
Today I read what the Friends of the Earth California director
articulated to the California Air Resources Board. I must add my
voice, my name and ask that not weaken the current Zero Emission
Vehicle regulations. Zero emission vehicles not only reduce air
pollution, but help in the fight against global warming. In fact,
now is the time to strengthen, not weaken, these requirements.
My desire would be for municipalities all over this state lead the
nation in purchasing ZEV for fleets of polices and other city
vehicals. It would transform this nation’s ability to address
global warming. Naturally, I am concerned about pollution as well
as the high price of gasoline. This is not likely to come to pass,
though, if automakers are only required to make 150 ZEV vehicles
per year.
Finally, I fully support the staff's proposal to significantly
increase the number of plug-in hybrids that must be produced and
appreciate staff's vision in including these cars in the ZEV
requirements.
