Comment | I would like to start off by saying that, whether or not you like it, California is setting the trend in low emission vehicles. I'm a little hesitant to get involved in California's politics since I live in Washington state, but after watching "Who Killed the Electric Car" and "An Inconvenient Truth" again the line "The air doesn't know a boundary between..." sunk in. I would like to urge you to KEEP UP THE REQUIREMENTS for zero emission vehicles. To reduce or discontinue the mandates will allow the auto makers to continue their current practices plunging us all into deeper trouble. The 2003 decision by CARB caused a 10 year setback in progress towards the reduction of fossil fuel use and its associated pollution. I for one would not like to see the same mistake repeated. The auto makers may complain but remember that they are lethargic dinosaurs (big and slow). They are having a hard time dealing with the fact that the world is changing and faster than they can cope with. The age of wide spread use of the internal combustion engine is over. We can no longer tolerate the side effects of its use, pollution and dependence on foreign fuel supplies. The United States and the entire planet for that matter are in serious trouble both economically and environmentally due to the use of fossil fuels. It's up to every person to do his part to reduce their contribution to the problems. One way is to drive zero emission vehicles but that can't be done unless the vehicles are available. Thank you; Randy Carter |
