The technology IS available to mass produce electric cars at
reasonable prices - see "Who Killed the Electric Car?"  But like
all new technologies, there are startup costs and corporations are
legally required to maximize profits for their shareholders. Every
new scientific study of climate change shows the impacts are worse
than previously thought. The State of California, the most populous
in the USA, can help save the world from the worst scenarios by
both mandating electric car production in quantities that matter
and offering incentives to manufacturers. Auto mechanics and gas
station owners should also be helped to train for and find new
business opportunities, especially in renewable energy. I know the
State is in a budget crisis but the threat to civilization must be
met.
