Comment | California Air Resources Board Dear CARB Members, A recent California Air Resource Board staff proposal calls for 90 percent fewer "pure" zero-emission vehicles than what California's Zero Emissions Vehicle (ZEV) program currently requires. I don’t get this, am I writing to CARB, the keeper of AB 32 or the US EPA? Is this staff report being written by the CARB staff or the car companies? The ZEV program has been instrumental in helping to bring us the necessary technology for hybrid cars and soon to be plug-in hybrid cars, both of which are necessary if we are going to reduce global warming. Don’t yield to the automakers demands for a weaker ZEV program with loopholes that will make it ineffective. Now is the time to stand up to the automakers if you/we ever expect to get real meaningful reductions of GHGs. Backing down now sends the wrong signals at the wrong time to where we need to go and what we need to be doing to reduce GHGs. California has passed a landmark global warming law, and the ZEV program has the potential to be a critical part of the global warming solution. Please don’t back down now. Sincerely, David Coale 766 Josina Ave Palo Alto, CA 94306 |
