Comment | I support your agenda to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and clean our air. The most promising way to reach this goal is to give consumers the choice to buy Zero-Emission Vehicles (ZEVs), such as these offerings from independent companies AC Propulsion E-Box, Tesla Roadster and the Phoenix Motors BEV sport utility truck. Reducing the number of ZEVs required of major automakers by 90%, settling for only 2,500 from 2012-2014, would be detrimental to Californians. Not only would it ignore the advances in battery technology, but the exponential growth in consumer interest, no demand, for oil independent non-polluting ZEVs, primarily Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs). I ask you chairwoman Nichols and all the CARB board members, to 1. Require the full 25,000 ZEVs that automakers had promised for 2012-2014, and 2. Create a separate requirement for plug-in hybrids that lets them replace the dirtiest vehicles in CARB's regulations, rather than the cleanest ZEVs. Choice for consumers means cleaner air for everyone. Thank you, Stanton Ireland |
