Comment | I am writing to express my objection to the California Air Resources Board’s proposed Zero Emission Vehicle changes. I support the Governor’s agenda to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and the most promising way to reach this goal is to give consumers the choice to buy Zero-Emission Vehicles, like the Governor’s electric Tesla Roadster. Unfortunately, at the next California Air Resources Board meeting, you’re proposing to reduce the number of Zero-Emission Vehicles required of automakers by 90%, settling for only 2,500 from 2012-2014. I an asking you to: (1) re-commit to the full 25,000 ZEVs that automakers had agreed to produce in 2012-2014, and (2) create a separate requirement for plug-in hybrids that lets them replace the dirtiest vehicles in CARB’s regulations. Choice for consumers means cleaner air for everyone. I have been trying to find a commercially produced, pure electric Zero Emission Vehicle for the past ten years. In the late 1990's I had a choice of several different models produced by different major auto manufacturers, thanks to the ZEV mandate. Today in 2008, there are no plug-in electric vehicles available from major auto companies. Use the mandates for cleaner electric power and the 'million solar rooftops' programs as a model. Please support battery-electric ZEVs and give the consumer a real way to reduce their carbon footprint. |
