Subject | Please support re-development of the electric car |
Comment | To the California EPA Air Resources Board- I'm from Illinois, thousands of miles away, but I am just one of many people passionate about reducing our dependence on foreign oil and cleaning the air. For years, California has in essence set the standard for much of what the rest of the country does: it produces films seen around the world, and promotes a culture that could be described as "uniquely American." Won't you please be the leader, and set the standard for clean air high-and now? Too many people in your own state are getting sick because of pollution; the EV1 promised to change that, but was cut short far too soon. Years later, people are wondering why electric cars aren't on the market, when they worked so well for so many. I for one would purchase one if it became available in my price range. And I ask you, please don't reduce the number of ZEVs required of automakers by 90%, as has been remarked elsewhere-this is not only unfair to those people who who would buy them (probable inflated price due to high demand/short supply), but it also will undermine the effectiveness of any clean air endeavors, for years to come. Please require the full 25,000 ZEVs that automakers had promised for 2012-2014, and create a separate requirement for plug-in hybrids that lets them replace the dirtiest vehicles in CARB's regulations, rather than the cleanest ZEVs. We in the rest of the country are counting on you to do what is right for the people-please don't let pressure from the auto industry make your choices for you. Thank you! Michelle Langhout |
