Subject | Make automakers do what they said they would. |
Comment | I have been frustrated in my effort to purchase an environmentally clean electric vehicle for nearly three years now. I continually bid on used electric vehicles on eBay and lose because demand for these five year old vehicles is so great the price is driven to $50-60K. The automakers said last year at the CARB public input that they are UNABLE to build electric vehicles because the technology isn't there yet. Do you really believe they are so inept that they can not build a car now that they already build five years ago. Based on my experience in the electric vehicle marketplace, I can say 150 electric vehicles a year will not meet the current demand for electric vehicles. Buyers from other states will compete with Californians for these vehicles. I support your agenda to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 25% by 2020. The most promising way to reach this goal is to give consumers the choice to buy Zero-Emission Vehicles (ZEVs), like your electric Tesla Roadster. Unfortunately, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) may reduce the number of ZEVs required of automakers by 90%, settling for only 2,500 from 2012-2014. Please ask your appointed CARB chair, Mary Nichols, to 1. Require the full 25,000 ZEVs that automakers had promised for 2012-2014, and 2. Create a separate requirement for plug-in hybrids that lets them replace the dirtiest vehicles in CARB's regulations, rather than the cleanest ZEVs. Choice for consumers means cleaner air for everyone. Thanks. Respectfully, Darren Overby |
