Comment | Letting the automakers off the hook for more ZEV vehicles in favor of promises of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles that are only 1/4 as efficient is a strategy that has not worked. As a taxpayer, I have no expectation that it will work in the future and am more than a little irritated at the high cost for hydrogen refueling infrastructure, and fuel cell research that has come at our expense. Better technology is here already as TESLA and Phoenix Motorcars have already demonstrated. The only FCEV's that are even scheduled to be released to consumers are lease only, city specific Hondas. We have also been down the lease only path with Ford and GM. CARB should not accept any automakers claim of production that isn't available for purchase. GM, Toyota, Honda, and Ford are all guilty of ripping the California taxpayers off (not to mention the early adopters that participated with their own money and good will by leasing these vehicles) by collecting incentive checks the State, only to crush or otherwise destroy the vehicles when willing purchasers were available. I trust that you will waste my taxpayer dollars on incentives or other subsidies for lease only vehicles, or hydrogen infrastructure, when affordable, mass produced, PURCHASABLE FCEV's are decades or more away. |
