This settlement set a terrible precedent for future corporate
polluters. SoCalGas poisoned tens of thousands of California's and
the state is going to invest up to 34.1 million dollars in projects
that SoCalGas and Sempra Energy will get to profit off of in the
long run. No projects that will ultimately benefit SoCal Gas should
be in the final settlement. SoCalGas initially lied about the leak,
then lied about the long term health impacts and they get
"punished" by having the state of California in "biomethane"
capture project that they have been advocating for in Sacramento
for years. This is disturbing on so many levels. If SoCalGas and
Sempra want to see more "biomethane" capture they should invest in
it themselves in no way should public money from a settlement they
have to pay the state because they POISONED our citizens be spent
to help their long term profit margins. The state of California an
the City of Los Angeles need to fix this immediately.
