I read the recent Aliso Canyon Mitigation agreement and was heartened to see that the settlement would result in the capture of methane emissions from some California dairy farms. However, I was dismayed to read a statement from Environmental Defense Funds's Timothy O'Connor that California's existing biogas infrastructure (that the methane captured at dairy farms would feed into) is also significant source of methane leaks. I am concerned that methane will be captured at dairy farms only to leak into the atmosphere at a later point. I urge the ARB to ensure that new biogas facilities built using this settlement money be held to high standards regarding leakage, so that the settlement will result in a true capture of methane emissions. |
